A gunman on a roof opened fire on a group of people in a car, killing two and wounding two more in a northeast Houston neighborhood Thursday.
The shooting happened around 4:45 p.m. after a fight between two groups that ranged in age between 17 and 21, Houston police said.
One of the group members, armed with a high-powered rifle, took to a neighborhood rooftop on an abandoned two-story house and waited for the other group to arrive, police said.
The suspect, a male of unknown age, opened fire when a car pulled into the neighborhood.
“That coward shot these young people like they were deer,” Houston Police Chief Art Acevedo said, according to the Houston Chronicle.
An 18-year-old man was killed at the scene and a 21-year-old man died of his injuries at an area hospital. A third male of unknown age was shot and taken to the hospital in critical condition, and a fourth victim, an 18-year-old woman, was shot in the ankle and taken to the hospital in stable condition.
The killer and others associated with him fled and are still at large. No descriptions were available.
